Stay was okay, but failing...
My stay at Hotel AKA Boston Common was fine. Its biggest strength is the location: it's an easy walk to the subway and it's nice to be almost right next to the Boston Common. There are very nice places to eat very close to the hotel. The room was nothing special. I liked their overall aesthetic but it felt like form over function at times.
Now we get to why I am giving them 1/10. I will begin with the stay itself. The room was very badly lit. For some reason they seemed allergic to ceiling lights except in the bathroom and right by the door, so it was annoying having to use all the little lamps to get a little bit of lightning by the window side of the room in the evenings. They had a showerhead with a bathtub, but no anti-slip mat. I did actually slip and fall on my first night because I was jetlagged and tired after a long day of travels. The restaurant they have has nice food, but it is pricey and in the mornings they seem to automatically include a 20% tip which is just mysteriously listed as "Other" on the bill, with it still asking for another tip as normal. This is somewhat offset by the 10% discount (on food only) that hotel guests get, but it feels dishonest to me. Now the big issue I have with them is that it seems impossible to contact them except by phone after your stay. I have an issue (still unresolved) where the hotel restaurant tipped themselves an extra $20 when I had dinner there the first night. I only realised when checking my bank statements at home. The hotel only has a public phone, and no email. Calling internationally is expensive and will probably add up to more than $20 by the time everything is resolved. I instead emailed them on the email address which was on the receipt I received when checking out from the hotel, but this email was automatically rejected because "Access Denied". After that I tried the contact form on their website and tried submitting that three times, but it doesn't seem to work at all. I have given up now and am leaving this review as a cautionary tale. If you're not from the US, then you're going to struggle to reach them after your stay.
