Try to deal with the son
I think it may have been the son. He was the most helpful and friendly. The owners can take some lessons from him. If possible, deal with him.
The hotel itself was clean. The room we got, I made them change the toilet seat out because it was old and looked like it was cleaned with sandpaper. We were there to handle a death in the family that happened unexpectedly and ended up having another person stay with us and a dog. They told us to remind them at check out. We did that and was told that it was going to be another $50 dollars for a total of $350 for the stay. I had a funny feeling, so I went back in to get a receipt from them, and they had started cleaning the room and said that was fine and we headed to the front. We got outside the room where the young daughter came up and was not in the room, said the room smelled like smoke. The owner then said as we were walking to the front for the receipt (and never mentioned anything about the room smelling like smoke while we were in it). Yes, it does. I told them we never smoked in the room. My husband and sister in law always went outside to smoke. They always saw them outside smoking. They were going to charge me for something that did not happen! Luckily, the son stepped in, and that did not happen. But, the daughter is extremely rude. Hopefully, we do not need to go back. If we do, i would rather sleep in my vehicle before staying here. I do not want to deal with the owner or the daughter(who said she hates dogs).
