Relative to the neighboring hotels,...
The location is good for anything at the university. Parking was convenient. The restaurant food was expensive but no more than a typical conference hotel and with enough staff, it’s roomy enough to handle quite a few people. The one person who waited on me at breakfast was polite and efficient. I will say that although I wasn’t there for a conference, I looked at the conference hall and it was quite nice. The cleaning staff were very cheerful and pleasant and do great work.
Mattresses comfort varies from person to person. If I were to complain about the bed it would be the pillows. While there were four pillows to choose from, they weren’t substantially different from one another and the ones that I had to choose from were not comfortable for me. I usually don’t have this problem at hotels. Water pressure is quite low so expect washing even short hair to take a little longer than usual. The main problem with sleeping were the noise and the light. This is not a quiet hotel. We could hear the flushing of the toilets above and next to us (enough to tell where it was coming from), the TV and talking in both neighboring rooms, doors and talking up and down the hallway, and people simply walking in the room above. Hallway talking was almost as loud as if the door was open. I have hearing impairment and I could hear every hallway word clearly. The staff also talked loudly in the hallways at times. Light came in through the break in the drapes and flooded in under the door and from the alarm clock. I had no trouble seeing to walk in the room in the dark but had to cover my head to sleep. Both room keys kept going defunct and just made sure one of us was in the room to open it for the other. If I’d been alone it would have been at least two more key reprograms. We had them reprogrammed which worked for one entry and replaced once (which worked for two entries) but then finally gave up when it was possible to do so. The desk worker was surly about having to replace them and didn’t ask for an ID before doing so (even though he wasn’t the one who checked me in). I know it’s Iowa but still, it seems like a small thing to ensure security, especially since the place wasn’t busy). I stay at hotels virtually every month of the year (I’ve already been in four in the last month) and this is the first time I’ve ever had working keys go defunct and this happened three times—the third time with new keys.

One man working front desk...

The entity needs updated.. carpets probably, walls furniture etc.. there is a smell or constant stench of mold or just musty old in the rooms, halls and definitely in the indoor staircase carpeted areas. Likely needs updated.

Very good
Location to the interstate. Beds were comfortable.
The room had kind of a perfumie smell. The power went off for about 6 hours. This was not the fault of the hotel, but due to a big snowstorm.

Free parking, price at the time of booking
Arrived to check in around 730 but the front desk agent wasn't there, had to wait for 15 minutes before they came back. Tried calling the front desk but the phone line didn't work. Fitness center didn't have the remote and no complimentary breakfast.
