Beautiful place, very enjoyable however not to the standard that we have experienced in previous visits and not feeling
The building and grounds never fail to impress. Absolutely stunning, Every meal we had was delicious and the gents in the bar were friendly and welcoming and made brilliant cocktails. Nazeem was also very friendly and helpful on arrival and departure, for example engaging in conversation and offering to de ice our windscreen.
For a five star hotel it definitely feels like the swimming pool needs an upgrade to feel more luxurious. Its very basic at the moment and hasnt improved much since our first visit about 5 years ago. In previous visits the reception staff seemed a lot more welcoming, attentive and nothing was too much trouble, however this time the staff at reception were little cold and not very friendly. Making no conversation or eye contact.

Excellent stay
Fantastic location. Excellent staff and great rooms
Breakfast was very basic for a five star hotel. Cheap ingredients. Would expect better quality ingredients for a five star. Bacon, hash browns and juice all disappointing.

Superb
I liked the porters. I lovedvthe seasonal decor, the spa and the very wonderful falconry man with Frankie the hawk.
The reception staff could sometimes be a little gruff or dismissive. Compared to the porters, it seems at odds. I felt perhaps that I wasn't the usual clientle and therefore I may have been treated differently. I lost my room key, was told at reception none were handed in (she did not look) and then the porters who was by the door said, 'yes, your key is here. It was handed in'... I felt strangely inferior at the way I was spoken to by the reception woman. She neither apologised nor looked at me as the porters handed me my key.

Very nice but not worth the money they charge. Have stayed in 3* hotels that where better.
The property is magnificent from the outside. The reception area and downstairs area is beautiful.
The rooms are okay. Beds are comfortable. As a 5* hotel I did expect the rooms to be better and the bathrooms. Cleanliness should be perfect but our toilet was stained which a bit of bleach and a scrub would have fixed, the bathroom blind was stained. Others in our party (separate room) had a dressing gown that was covered in what looked like brown makeup all down the arm?? There wasnt really an apology for this just that it would be changed. There seemed to be a long wait for meals to arrive. And a vegan breakfast arrived with eggs?? Breakfast took so long that we didnt manage to check out until 11:30. The food was lovely though. The bar area needs to be bigger considering the size of the hotel.
